Day 519 | 7 Steps to Stop Disempowering Yourself

Several weeks ago I had a very interesting experience. My team of people with whom I work together in mutual support were all coincidentally not getting back to me, not answering my emails in the usual time frame. The timing couldn't have been more perfect! Life was giving me a lesson, and an opportunity to step beyond my habitual response.

See - the trigger point being that everyone wasn't getting back to me, I went into a reaction/experience of ‘feeling left alone’, ‘feeling abandoned’ and like ‘nobody cares’.

Within accepting such energetic charges within myself and the corresponding thoughts, what was in fact happening is that I was shifting my focus and attention from ME HERE to ‘them’, and within this I was going into a mode of self-victimization along with shifting responsibility, thus blaming ‘them’ for how I was experiencing myself.

Now this didn’t happen immediately, I was in fact seeing how such thoughts and inner experiences were problematic, but instead of directing them/myself immediately, I would tell myself in my mind that “it’s okay” and “things are not like they seem” and “I'm sure they'll get back to me soon”, but at the same time I was suppressing my inner experience – until one day I woke up and burst right into tears, lol. That is when I realized and decided: Alright now, enough is enough, let me direct this point.

What I then found is quite simplistic, and yet through ‘trapping myself in my mind’ and trying to ‘overcome’ the experience by suppressing it I had created a time loop that made the ‘problem’ seem bigger than it is and kept me from getting to a solution that would empower me and allow me to move forward.

See – throughout that time, I was focusing more on what I CANNOT do due to not receiving the feedback, and forgot all about what I was ABLE to do in the meantime. Which (apart from the obvious work-related points) would be first of all to take self-responsibility for my emotional experience and stop my reaction of self-victimization, stop disempowering myself.

That point of disempowerment in itself is quite a bizarre manifestation as it in entails in fact a point of self-manipulation and self-sabotage. And why? Just because it's apparently easier for us to blame it on others than to take self-responsibility. That is part of the human condition. See, I was the one keeping myself in that state, I was the one deciding what to focus my attention on, I was the one differing responsibility – I was the one disempowering myself!

Once I had enough of the shit and decided to move myself to resolve this point and regain my power – the matter was quite simplistic.

So here are 7 steps to STOP disempowering yourself:

  1. Take a breath, and focus on breathing – this is your real space-time reality
  2. Shift your focus from ‘them’ to ME HERE
  3. Stop feeling sorry for yourself
  4. Stop any comparison that you may entertain within yourself
  5. Investigate how you create and/or perpetuate your negative experience – write it and right it!
  6. Focus on what you CAN do – and do it!
  7. Commit yourself to walking through your fears and limitations

Like any advice, it is what you make it. It's not about where it will take you, it's about where you will take yourself! You decide to what depth you take these simple instructions. I would suggest: Own them!

For example, you can write out in detail all thoughts and inner conversations, all excuses and justifications that come up in your mind – all those ‘voices in your head’ trying to ‘explain’ to you why you are right!

See – those are the very ego-mechanisms that ensure we remain limited and inferior, stuck in our own ‘knowledge box’ and inviting in our lives only those who are willing to pat us on the shoulder. Misery loves company. Like attracts like. So stop belittling yourself and rather commit yourself to exploring and expressing your utmost potential.

Furthermore, you can investigate your fears. Write them out and do a reality check – you will find that most of your fears are irrational. Seeing this is a cool wake-up call, and you can in one moment make a decision to let an irrational fear go. If you find pragmatic reasons for a certain fear within you – move yourself to pragmatic steps, eg. enhance your abilities and qualifications. Again: focus on what you can do and take a step-by-step approach to doing it!

You can further investigate where and how you keep holding on to a perception of lack within yourself and how you justify such limitations. Write it all out! See – if you keep things in your mind they tend to merely cycle and re-cycle, over and over again. If you write them out, you can give them direction and move yourself toward Change. The trick within this, is to write in self honesty. Dare to be ‘brutally honest’ with yourself and remember to always bring each point ‘back to self’ – by asking yourself How am I creating this, and how can I take self responsibility?

See – an interesting point within our social conditioning is that we hardly ever learn that responsibility equals power. Instead, we are taught and conditioned to fear responsibility, to avoid it at all cost, to define our freedom in separation from our own reality context. Personal freedom and power is not to be found out there somewhere or on some faraway island where we imagine ourselves sipping on our favorite cocktail. Honestly, even with the things you enjoy most – do the rational reality check: How long can you sit there sipping on your favorite cocktail before you’ve had enough of it?!

So – find the points of responsibility within your own life and your world/reality, embrace them, and stand up to regain your power – live your freedom within who you are and how you conduct yourself in every little moment. No longer am I accepting and allowing myself to disempower myself!

Day 503 | Satisfaction within Being Directive in Communication

These days I had some time off and I took the opportunity to write some emails on a subject that I had put quite behind on my list of priorities.
As I was writing the emails and communicating some points to the people involved in the particular project, I realized that I had projected expectations, both onto myself and onto others, and that the more I had postponed directing the point the more I would resist it and slide it further down my list of priorities.

So here obviously we have a case of procrastination, and I´ll be going into this particular point in my next blog post; in this post however I would like to share this simplistic yet fulfilling experience of satisfaction within the context of me taking up communication within the particular project and writing some emails to give the point direction. The satisfaction coming from the starting-point of self-movement, realizing that “I just did it” and “hey it wasn’t that bad or that difficult after all”.
And suddenly also realizing that the key to movement is within effective and practical communication, and most importantly: direct / directive communication  –

This is then opening up another key point, namely that of `self communication´, i.e. who and how we are within and toward ourself;
Because obviously, how can we want or expect effective communication with others, when we within ourselves have no effective self communication, in terms of self-honesty – for instance within how we approach things or people, how we look at others and at ourselves, things we even hide from ourselves like fears and inferiorities and motives, things we deny or suppress, things we ignore or refuse to consider, the expectations that we project, the judgments that we cast, how we shift responsibility to ´others’… hmm, that´s quite a list isn´t it, and it all comes down to `self communication´ and thus the self-honesty of who we are within and toward ourselves and our own inner processes, both mental and emotional.

So – communication – let´s have a look: Communication consists of words, which consist of definitions and meanings, which is something like symbols and signs.
Now – when the signs we exchange are not clear and/or when the symbols we use are not seen for what they are (let alone that people often have different interpretations/values/meanings for the same symbol, an infamous example all can relate to being the word ` love´), then it’s unlikely that communication will be clear, direct, and effective.

Here I’m therefore also sharing the importance of developing effective communication skills, effective looking and seeing skills, which is essentially the ability to see and assess reality with unbiased clarity.

Within this, WRITING is an awesome tool towards CLARITY, as within Writing we are able to transfer what is inside (the mind) into the outside (the physical: here, written out on paper or print) and check it against reality, self-honesty and practical common sense; to then make evaluations and corrections where required, aligning thus our thoughts, words and deeds, from the inside to the outside, and taking self-responsibility and establishing response-able self communication.

Getting ourselves to clear and direct communication is a vital life skill and assists us in realizing the self-directive will that can be ‘found’ within self-honesty and self-awareness, cross-referenced with common sense physical reality.

Yep – writing, communicating, taking responsibility for points in my life, being directive within communication: this is, I find, something truly fulfilling, something wherein we are even able to self-realize our creative ability and in-form ourselves to human beings that will redefine the term ‘human nature’ by living a new paradigm of the things everyone wishes for: peace, freedom, brotherhood, dignity of life and fun!

473 | Becoming Aware of the Mind’s Busyness/Business

ART by Matti Freeman

I am sharing a perspective I shared with a person walking the DIP Lite. I saw that this person was developing self with every assignment, already in the first 5-6 days of the first practical step: writing.

The writing:
“I have been very busy for the last two nights, finally got back to the writing today. In reality nothing much has happened, but I found that since I have started to observe my own mind, I realized how unstable it is, it seems impossible to control it and understand how it works. I have started doing some concentration practice before sleep, but it is much harder than I thought. Lots of random memories such as embarrassment and regret, just keep on drag me away from reality. My brain is so noisy that I can't even hear from my heart...”

My perspective:

"You know, what you are now starting to see, observe, 'remember', and think and experience within/as the mind: has always been here – it is you. You are now simply beginning to become more directly aware of it, aware of what exists within you as you, how your mind functions, and who you are within it all.
Within this, consider that the mind is not an enemy – yes from a certain perspective we are our own worst enemy, lol, but – the mind/consciousness is/has become who we are, it’s all that we are currently, while in fact there is so much more to ourselves/our existence. Yet our awareness is currently only in, through and as the mind, so it IS ourselves. But we never got to understand all of ourselves as one and equal properly and completely. We never really learned to work with the mind, understand our thoughts, emotions and feelings, face our fears and reactions, see through our beliefs, etc. Thus the mind can in fact be our tool to self-realization.

We so often form reactions of suppression, denial, and inferiority/fear in relation to the mind and our experience(s) of/as consciousness and abdicate our self-relationship /our relationship to our mind as ourselves.
There are many reasons for this, but basically we never learned how to 'work with' our mind.
The mind is in fact a tool, and utilized correctly in self-honesty we can really get to know ourselves, realize our creation, realize what and how we have become, as well as realize self-responsibility - essentially getting ourselves to absolute self-honesty.

You can utilize breath awareness /breathing to support yourself – I suggest when taking the time to do you concentration practice as you say, to practice awareness as breath/breathing. That’s cool before sleep, and also whenever the mind becomes ‘too much’. You can train yourself in bringing yourself with your awareness ‘back here’ to the physical reality and out of the ‘round and round’ of the mind. You can do this ‘in the moment’, in the realization that "I am here. And I can work with what is here in every breath, breath by breath" –
to assist and support yourself to slow down.

So when the mind is busy you can utilize writing, which will assist in slowing down – since writing is a physical act that 'takes time', and change happens in real-time. And that is exactly the real-time we ultimately want ourselves want to walk: here in every moment, that’s where our real power is, to direct ourselves in self-honest self-responsibility, and we can work with 'what is here' in every moment, breath by breath.
Breathing – awareness as breath – will assist in the realization that, I breathe here, I am here, and thus I can take responsibility for what is here as myself, step by step, breath by breath.

'Writing your mind out' will also assist in getting yourself to more clarity, to 'calm down' so to speak, because instead of things moving round and round in the mind which tends to lead to an experience of 'feeling overwhelmed', you direct/move yourself to write them out, and so you can see them black on white (on paper, on the screen) and they no longer seem 'so big' / 'so much'.
You may for instance want to take notes of the memories or thought processes that have been coming up within you, and in the Lessons to come you can work on your writings with the tools that will be introduced.

So, I have seen you developing / expanding within and through your writing, and I'd suggest to, if you have the time, push yourself to work on your DIP assignments daily – this will assist you with stabilizing yourself through the physical act of writing, with developing self-movement/self-direction, and you will also sooner get to the tools and assignments introduced in the next lessons, so you can work with what you are facing within and as yourself.

Enjoy!"
